MLK Paragraph
"I Have A Dream" is a speech written by Martin Luther King Jr. that addresses the rights and equality of Americans, particularly the 'negros' or the African American community wig are often discriminated in society. MLK dressed the American historical context including the Emancipation Proclamation which implies that the audience of MLK's speech are his fellow Americans, black or white regardless of race and background. MLK addresses the negative treatment of African Americans in the American society using a harsh and pessimistic tone which suggests that through this speech, he wants to convey his purpose to end racism, discrimination, inequality and injustice of any American in the American society. MLK hopes to achieve his dream where one day, every American would be equally treated regardless of how they look and that every American would have equal opportunities to live their dream.
MLK's speech has been worded with rhetorical devices in order to create a certain effect or impact on the reader. The wide range of the use of metaphor such as "a great beacon light of hope", "the whirlwinds of revolt", "the valley of despair", etc. were used in order to evoke a certain image of the two different objects being compared in the minds of the audience. It refers that one object is actually another completely different object. The wide range of the use of anaphora such as "one hundred years...", "some of you...", etc. were used in order to suggest the idea of emphasis of the certain topic and stresses the idea's importance to the audience.
